This authentic Victorian Miser's Purse is a stunning example of mid-1800s domestic handicraft. Hand-crocheted from fine brown silk or cotton cord, the purse is intricately embellished with steel seed beads in geometric and diamond patterns. Most notably, one side of the pouch features the original owner's name, "Harriet," expertly beaded into the crochet work.
The purse retains its two original cut-steel sliding rings and features the traditional asymmetrical design: one rectangular end with a fringed bottom and one pointed "almond" end. Included is the original antique paper tag with a handwritten note regarding Harriet King and the age of the piece. This is an exceptional find for collectors of early American provenance, mourning textiles, or antique fashion.
